Barbados – A top destination for Gen Z & Millennials

Barbados – A top destination for Gen Z & Millennials
After losing two years of travelling the world due to the pandemic, now is the time to get out there and follow your wanderlust desires. In fact, a recent travel report found that 64% of 13-39-year-olds say travel is even more important to them now than it was before COVID.
In an American Express’ travel report, it was found that 62% of respondents want to take 2-4 trips this year, with Millennials leading the wave. They found that Millennials want to go somewhere where they can immerse themselves in local culture—and want to take international trips to places where they can experience new foods, sites and ways of life. Barbados checks all of these boxes with a truly unique and beautiful island experience, ideal for young travelers.

The Food and Rum
To truly experience a culture, you must taste it! Barbados promises to tantalize your tastebuds with fresh local seafood, some of the Caribbean’s best street food and fine dining experiences. Feeling adventurous? Try some of the unique cultural dishes like cou cou and flying fish (the National Dish) or Pudding and Souse (a local favourite). The “Pudding” is a steamed sweet potato, sometimes served in a sausage tubing. The “Souse” is essentially pickled pork with cucumber and delicious local herbs. One of our favourite places to try souse is the Village Bar at Lemon Arbour. Here you will get the full local Bajan Rum Shop Experience. Another cultural must visit is Oistins Fish Fry on a Friday night.
Fun Fact: The oldest rum brand in the world is Barbados very own ‘Mount Gay Rum’ - an absolute must try when on the island. We highly recommend booking the Mount Gay Rum Tour when you can learn about the history of the brand, making the rum and sampling various blends of course!
Travel Tip: The Rum Tour is a few streets down from Rihanna Drive. Head there after to see Rihanna’s childhood home.

Action Packed Fun
Challenge your travel group to a karting race around the Bushy Park Race Track where legendary Lewis Hamilton has raced before. Hike the rugged east coast of the island with Monkey Trails Barbados or do a highly rated e-bike tour with EBike Island Adventures.
Rather hit the water? Learn to surf with a fun filled lesson with Barry’s Surf School or our team can help you book a jet ski rental or waterskiing session with Sublime Barbados and their fabulous team of instructors. Looking for something to do at night? The Harbor Lights Dinner Show is a fun way to experience the culture, while enjoying a local buffet, unlimited alcoholic drinks and an after party on Wednesdays.

Culture you will fall in love with
What makes Barbados a truly unique travel experience is our people and our culture. Bajans are very warm and friendly people. Visitors to the island are encouraged to ‘live like a local’ and visit local rum shops where they can play dominoes with the welcoming Barbadians or enjoy local food and drink. We recommend visiting The Bay Lounge on the East Coast or John Moore’s Rum Shop on the West Coast. Both have specular views and are a truly local experience.
Rent a car and get lost exploring the island like a local. Barbados is a safe destination, though we do encourage all exploring be done in the daytime. If you need help with directions a passerby will gladly help by going into detail, in their Bajan accent with a smile on their face. There is so much to love about Barbados and many people have fallen in love with the island and chosen to extend their stay with the one-year Barbados Welcome Stamp. Add Barbados to your travel Bucket List – you won’t regret it!
