When the original holiday we’d booked fell through after the owners decided to sell their property we were understandably disillusioned at the prospect of starting again from scratch. But, serendipitously, we chanced upon the lovely Villa Galena and thank goodness fate dealt us that hand! Four of us stayed in this beautiful, peaceful and wonderfully situated villa, enjoying its comfortable facilities and the attentive services of Maxine, our fabulous cook, and Natasha, our fantastic housekeeper. Apart from the fact that the villa was just sublime, Max and Tash made sure our holiday was extra special, cooking us wonderful local dishes and keeping the villa sparkling clean. Sitting on the terrace, listening to the early evening chorus of whistling frogs, gazing at the Caribbean Sea in the distance, while enjoying one or two of Maxine’s delicious Bajan fish cakes, accompanied by a cold glass of wine – this is just one of many memories that will never fade. Villa Galena is set in its own gorgeous tropical grounds (regularly attended by excellent gardeners). The large front garden and driveway has covered parking and the entrance to the traditional-style, single storey villa is appealing and welcoming. Inside, there’s plenty of seating and reception area space, room to accommodate a party larger than our group of 4 adults. The rear grounds, with their beautiful palms, bougainvillea and hibiscus, slope gently down to the perimeter of the Sandy Lane golf course and afford a wonderful view of the Caribbean Sea in the distance. The generously sized outdoor pool is screened from the rest of the garden by palms and has plenty of sunbed facilities and tables, plus a shaded area for when the sun’s at its highest. There’s a barbecue, too, which we enjoyed using on Maxine’s night off. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, with plenty of refrigeration and storage space, and the double bedrooms are comfortable, light and airy and well-sized, with en suite facilities and plenty of hanging space for clothes. Our bedroom opened on to the lovely pool, perfect for an early morning dip before breakfast. Having access to Sandy Lane beach and our own beach cabana was certainly a bonus. Although walkable, practically and realistically speaking you need a car to travel the five minutes from the villa to the beach. Equally, a vehicle or taxi is required for the few minutes’ drive into nearby Holetown to sample the bars, restaurants and shopping facilities of this west coast town. WiFi is available, and was good in our bedroom, but our friends reported intermittent lack of coverage in their room. But such a stunning location more than compensates for occasional internet drop-off. Air conditioning is available in the bedrooms and there are ceiling fans elsewhere. In our hire car we travelled the length and breadth of the island quite easily from Villa Galena, splashing out on a taxi to take us to the legendary Oistins Fish Fry on Friday night. To say this holiday was magical is an understatement. Max and Tash looked after us so wonderfully we felt truly spoiled. The real charm of Villa Galena lies not only in its beautiful surroundings, comfortable, spacious rooms and gorgeous views, but also in the warm and friendly welcome of its fabulous staff. Thank goodness our original holiday fell through! We’d return to Villa Galena in a heartbeat!

Villa Galena is in an outstanding location, offering a wonderful outside terrace, pool area and tropical gardens with stunning views over the golf course and Caribbean Sea. Maxine, our cook provided delightful meals for us and Natasha, our housekeeper kept our accommodation looking beautiful, this included freshly laundered clothes for us each day. We all agreed this gem of a Villa afforded us our own piece of Barbadian Paradise. The villa also had access to the Sandy Lane Private Owners Beach which included our own cabana with its own fridge and amenities, a fabulous beach and the glorious Caribbean sea. Surely, one of the best beaches the Caribbean has to offer in our opinion. Once again a huge thank you to Maxi and Tash for making our holiday so memorable and we can all whole heartedly recommend the Villa Galena to any one searching for their own bit of Caribbean Paradise.

We enjoyed your beautiful spacious home and Maxine and Tasha’s hospitality. Sandy Lane was wonderful to walk, the warm sea & beach combing always fun! We loved seeing the monkeys and even lucked out with a few whales and a turtle as we walked the beach at Sandy Lane. Great fresh fish from Millie Ifill market and Maxine’s recipes are amazing. This was our first time to Barbados, we planned it in exceptional detail, taking with us our 3 small children plus grandparents too. Booking somewhere to stay to suit all the needs at first proved quite difficult that was until we found the Galena!! On arrival, quite late in the evening, we were greeted by the marvellous Maxine and the native Natasha who kept the house very clean, looked after the clothes and maintained a lovely environment in which to enjoy and relax. Maxine’s cooking was exceptional, I tasted dishes that were fresh, enjoyable, easy on the palate and just damn right delightful. She was always such a pleasant dynamic to be around. I often would ask how she had created such dishes only to then be shown and talked through such dish. I only hope I can recreate them to such an amazing , delicious standard. The house itself was simply perfect ! Just sufficient room for 8 of us. The location is peaceful and has the most amazing views. There is plenty of room to relax and just do and be yourself. I can truly recommend this place , I just worry that after too many exceptional reviews we will not be able to book back in but if you are considering the house, you will not be disappointed!!

It's always a challenge taking the extended family on a holiday. Everyone has different tastes and ideas. This proved the perfect solution for everyone. Maxine and Tasha were the icing on top of the cake. We've never had a chef or a housekeeper on previous trips, and i wasn't sure how it would work. It was fantastic. Maxine sat down with us at the start of the week, and we discussed what sort of food we would like, then we did a trip to the supermarket armed with a shopping list, and Maxine picked up thinks like fish etc. Her cooking was delicious, and presentation fantastic. Tasha kept the Villa spotless all week, and all our laundry was taken care of. These 2 ladies make all the difference in ensuring it's a relaxing break, not just a week in a fantastic location with lovely views. Look out for the monkeys popping in to help themselves to the mangoes on the trees. Car recommended if you plan to get out and about at all.

I always get nervous planning a vacation for 8 people, all with different opinions and wants, but with booking Galena, I hit a home run. The house was gorgeous, very spacious, beautifully decorating, and in a perfect location. But the staff, Maxine and Natasha, made the vacation extra special. I don't know what ingredients Maxine puts in her cooking but everything she made was outstanding. Natasha made the house look like a five star hotel everyday. They both were so helpful and couldn't be nicer. I would recommend this house to anyone. We all just had a wonderful time!!! Emmy
