The Barbados Food and Rum Festival has just concluded and came off with a bang! The theme was “The Story of Rum … from then to now” and created a fantastic tale of the history of rum making and how it has been perfectly mixed with great Bajan cuisine over the years.
Coming to Barbados is an experience, the Rum and food festival allows you to take a journey in to the history of the island through the sampling of its food and excellent rums. Barbados has set itself up as a destination for food lovers from around the world and this year’s event went all out for the 10th anniversary.
The selections on offer were highly varied, from street vendors to tasty beach food to fine dining of the highest quality. A range of venues were selected around the island to showcase the local culture and landscape, with Bajan restaurants creating special menus for the four day event.
The local Barbados dishes took center stage with traditional local delicacies like flying fish and cou cou, fish cakes, pudding and souse and much more. Young talented chefs were also out to showcase local ingredients with a modern flare, bring a new spin to the food scene in Barbados.
We are ready and waiting for the 2020 festival to see what the Barbadian chefs and mixologist will bring to the table.
