Barbados Polo - Holders Polo Club

Polo in Barbados can trace its roots back more than 130 years and has been based at Holders Hill in the parish of St James since 1965. The picturesque Holders Polo Field, overlooking the West Coast of Barbados was for many years the only home to the sport in the island, but additional fields have been developed over the past decade or so, allowing Barbados to develop polo capital.

A busy polo calendar runs between December and early May, encompassing the island’s major tourist season, but many local games can be found being played right through summer. All visitors are welcome to matches across the island, which are scheduled a few times a week during the season, with local matches often staged as “warm-ups” for the growing number of International Tournaments.

It is important to remember that polo is heavily dependent on good weather, not only at the stated time of a match, but in the preceding few hours. It is worth checking before heading to the match, social media becomes increasingly widely-used and this information is ever-more readily available on the polo clubs website.
